Microsoft on Google

Microsoft

How Google took over, I have no idea? I mean I am sure there are about a million reasons why and I am also sure they all make sense. But it just is amazing that a company so new could become the leading search engine in such a short time and literally take over. They have around 50% of the search engine market to my knowledge and it is no wonder that Microsoft’s management is really getting on their case to compete. Microsoft just has never been that reliable, as the biggest company in the world and the most powerful, why can’t they get these things right. I guess its almost good that a company that is this big is so faulty because if they were perfect they might actually take over the world, and I don’t think that would be a very fun thing to have to go through. Imagine if Bill Gates owned the world, kind of a scary thought. I know there was some talk about him having the ability to take over the country and the Government was putting a lot of pressure on him to make sure he did not get too powerful Once you have a billion dollars, it seems that one more billion isn’t that much more, but think about it, it’s a billion dollars more, that a huge amount. And Bill Gates has billions of dollars, why does he need all of that money? Well I guess he was smart enough to get it, so in the end I would say more power to you good sir, King of all the Dorks.

Online Video

Streaming video for the gym seems like a good idea. It seems that we are in a world where renting and buying video is no longer good enough. Blockbuster is an example of a company that was affected by the internet because other companies like netflix allow you to order movies through the internet or phone and have them sent to your house. People are looking for the fastest and most updated ways of receiving information. If I were looking for a fitness workout, I would want something that changes up by the week or something that is different daily so I don’t get bored. The nice thing about this technology, if it got off the ground is that you could constantly have updated videos for your fitness. Not that I workout that often or would use this if I did, but just knowing people that do, it could be a big advantage. Web based exercises can be incorporated into your television and allow someone to sit at home and maybe work out in their weight room while seeing an up to date video. I think that this technology, with people becoming more internet savvy, is going to be a very popular practice among those who enjoy exercise. It seems that everyone is trying to find the fastest, cheapest, and easiest way to do things, and exercise is included in this. This is going to lead to more advertising and in tern more people are going to want to exercise in this way.

Microsoft attack

Microsoft really amazes me, it manages to be one of the biggest companies in the world while holding 90 percent of the computers but it seems to be the worst. Now it makes sense that Microsoft has viruses because people are more willing to attack when they know it will hurt a lot of people but it still confuses me that they can’t get a better operating system. Apple seems to be gaining a lot of popularity due to their strong security systems. It is also said that the chance of getting a virus on an Apple is virtually impossible and does not look like that is going to change in the future. An interesting point about apple is that there are people out there trying to break through the system because if they are able to make a virus for it, they will be considered famous in the hacking world. It is also true that for Microsoft there are a lot of people out there to get Bill Gates. I think it is interesting how intense some of these hackers can get and how personally they take things when someone is trying to control the world of computers. It is scary to know that someone can enter your computer through another computer or through your web browser and completely take over your system. There are so many smart people out there and it is interesting that some chose to use their education and knowledge of computers to do illegal things instead of make things better. I am not saying this is a bad thing, not that I really agree with it, but they are people who believe that the internet is not fair and should not be run by powerful people and the government like most people are.

PS2

PS2

Being someone who used to be into videogames but has lost touch with them in the past few years, I understand the strong competition of the market. Sony’s PlayStation 2 and Microsoft’s Xbox, have taken the roles as the strongest systems in gaming today. Xbox recently came out with their next generation of gaming system, while PS2 is holding back until the next year to come. Xbox felt the need to get a jump start on the market by releasing a new product which was faster, better graphics, and overall a better system with newer capabilities. PS2, while they may seem to be behind in the gaming market, is awaiting their highly anticipated PS3 to come out late this year, which is expected to blow consumers away. Because of the drop in sales of PS2, it is clear as to why they would cut their prices down. And it is also obvious that if Sony’s demand has been going down and they are forced to cut prices, that Microsoft will also be cutting prices of their previously sold system, which is said that they no longer buy. Nintendo is the other competitor in the market, but due to their lack of recent success, they have taken a new spin on things and decided to use a new approach to gaming which they thought not only had potential but was unique to the already diverse market. Sony has great potential in the market to up their sales by lowering their prices, which could in tern keep fans loyal for the await of their new system, and also bring new buyers in for the future

Flash media

Flash Media

Personally the idea of cell phones having more graphics and things on them is pointless to me. I think it is great for Adobe because they are going to have a huge potential jump in profits but how much more do we really need on our phones. It is one thing to increase capabilities in terms of calling and texting and planning but just adding flash media seems really farfetched. What it does show is the strengths of Verizon as one of the leading cell phone carriers in the world. Verizon has really jumped the market over the years even with big competitors such as AT&T and Cingular merging. If you look at it from the standpoint of Adobe, it is a great move. They are going to not only make a lot more money on this deal but if flash media on phones does catch on, they have a great chance to really expand their market. They have already bought out some key companies that they have been working with to take over that market. I think one thing that has to be put into consideration is that phones that are getting this new flash media are going to have to be more powerful. Also as it is on the web, depending on your speed of the connection, flash media can be really slow and make things not work properly. Verizon has to make sure their capabilities can handle things like this so there are no complaints and problems.

Coming Soon

I don’t know if this is a great idea. I think that people can easily get movies on their computer illegally such as certain downloadable services like
limewire which is the equivalent to Napster. The only nice thing about it is that some people are willing to pay the money to get the movie. I think the rental thing is the biggest problem. Renting movies is always an issue for people because they usually like to hold some type of possession. I think renting at blockbuster is okay but when you rent something on your computer you feel that you own it and then when the rental is due you lose what you felt you owned. I think one of the bigger problems is that someone can rent a DVD and then they can store it on their computer which allows them to have the file and watch in whenever they want anyway and it is most likely cheaper. Also with the downloading there are a lot of security issues that make it impossible to send the file, which is another reason people will be against it because no one likes to deal with security issues. I think if I were to look at it at a positive level, there are some advantages that are going to be taken. People in America are extremely lazy and they have gotten to the point where they don’t even want to get off the couch and get a movie down the street which is most likely a 5 minute drive. People would rather sit at their computer and download a movie which allows them to get use no effort and see their favorite picture.

Microsoft legal issues

Article

I think it is interesting when dealing with auctions as to what is legal and illegal. EBay seems to be a great and widespread website that has capabilities beyond most. I wonder when it goes from auctioning something legal to illegal if most of these transactions are picked up. Are all of the sellers on eBay and the transactions they are making viewed by someone working for eBay? Something that really gets me going is that people risk selling something so illegal on the eBay. I think that there are a lot of other ways that are less known and not likely to get caught to sell a product. EBay is such a big and powerful website, that while there are millions of transactions going on, they are the most likely to be targeted for theft. I think that eBay should be going after the people who used them to sell this pirated software. The reason for this is to prove a point that not only Microsoft is at risk and going to do something about it but so is eBay. If someone known that by selling something illegal on eBay is going to get them possibly sued by eBay as well, they are going to be less likely to go through with it. EBay is a great tool for selling and buying things, but it is really so open to theft and problems, how can you trust someone that you do not know and could be any place in the world?
