Nintendo DS

My name is Josh Greenfield. I am a junior at the University of Delaware and my major is Marketing. I am from Bryn Mawr, PA and went to Radnor high school. I am in a band at the University of Delaware which you can check out our music at GREENFRONT . We are also on Myspace and play shows around the Delaware/Philly area.

Nintendo seems to have been loosing popularity to some of the over video game companies. I do not think that adding a wireless connection to the internet is the right approach to obtaining more product sales. It seems that the age of users for the Nintendo DS is young so adding television and internet is not necessarily the right thing to do. While I feel that Nintendo is still on the falling, the article states otherwise and claims that their sales have been up. It is possible that things are getting better for Nintendo but I still don’t think that the expansion is going to be a good marketing choice. The big portable system that is out there is the PSP by Sony. And that already has internet and movie capability with better graphics and a wide version of games. I think that Nintendo’s best bet at the moment would be to sell out to another company giving someone like Sony the rights to some of their popular games. Nintendo has been around for a lot longer in the gaming business than Sony, but they were not able to properly market their products. Enabling their product to surf the web still makes them a step behind the competition. I cannot see Nintendo coming back in action and taking the leading role in video gaming anytime soon. It seems that it is more popular in Japan but the marketing in the United States is not going as well as they probably hoped for.
